This brew is dedicated to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their quest of the Super Bowl LV Championship. Aside from the Bucs, this is an Irish Style Red Ale and we brewed it just in time for St. Paddy’s Day . In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if my brew-mates on Fairgate didn’t have any of this yummy stuff in their kegs/growlers/bottles by the time St. Paddy’s rolls around. So, don’t drink it all just yet!
Let’s start with:
COLOR: Ironically, this beer is Tampa Bay Buccaneer RED. I am of the belief that this beer is the perfect color RED. Not strikingly RED like a Killian’s or a deep dark RED like a Smithwick’s but somewhere in between. The color itself has an appeal when it’s sitting in the glass. It’s beautiful and so RED. Actually it’s more like a dark amber pale with a RED hue. I don’t know how we pulled the color off so nicely but well done Fairgate!
TASTE: How can I describe this taste? A slight bitterness on the ‘in’ with a lovely sweet malt on the ‘out’. We tasted Smithwick’s side by side and I felt like the start and finish were similar, however Smithwick’s had a more pronounced toastiness in the malt. Smithwick’s for me is like the Corvette of RED ales. Believe it or not, it’s the most consumed Ale in the country of Ireland so this is an unfair comparison but in my opinion, Fairgate RED is just as delicious.
ABV: Somewhere in the mid-high 5% range but like most of the good things in life, you can’t over-do it. I haven’t gotten drunk on this beer but I know someone who has 😂 !
Some of the other beer stuff:
- Fragrance: It’s an appealing smell of barley malt, very slight on the hops, yum!
- Appearance: The initial pour is nice in what I would describe as a creamy head. Check out the pic! By the way, comparison of Kegerators mine vs. Guy, hands down Guy wins. Handle, picture, all with the additional tap! I mean, check out the pic!
- Head Retention: I love that phrase! The head stays throughout, no complaints!
What else is there..? Dunno, it’s good beer, drink it, enjoy, Go Bucs!
